Slakthus 25 is located on Stora Skorstensv\u00e4gen. The building is a former slaughterhouse for small livestock which was constructed in 1910-1911 as part of the new, modern slaughterhouse area in Johanneshov, Enskede. House 25 was a large, daylight-filled hall with roof lanterns and rows of columns supporting the beams. Its distinctive utilitarian architecture in the Art Nouveau style has been awarded a blue classification by the Stadsmuseet in Stockholm, indicating its exceptionally high cultural and historic value. Over the years, the slaughterhouse has undergone several major transformations, both inside and out, and the aesthetic qualities of the originally open slaughter hall were diminished by the addition of mezzanine floors and partition walls. Today, much of the original open plan has been restored by the property owner, who is now seeking a tenant willing to preserve and respect the building\u2019s unique character and history. <\/p>\n
This degree project in Interior Architecture and Furniture Design in Konstfack\u2019s Degree Exhibition 2025 explores how interior architects can work with various design solutions for wall elements that balance function, aesthetics and historical preservation in early 20th-century industrial buildings; spaces where walls are often absent. Taking House 25 in the slaughterhouse area as a point of departure, this project employs the methods of site analysis, the mapping of existing wall structures, model studies and various approaches to defining the concept of \u201cwall\u201d in a context where its traditional functions are being challenged.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
