Pyre is an installation that delves into the destructive yet transformative power of fire, examining both its audible and visual traces. Through the practice of charring tree trunks and by capturing the “voice” of fire—its crackling, sparking, and roaring sounds—I aim to immerse the viewer in the visceral experience of combustion. The sound recordings, paired with the charred remains of the trees, serve as physical evidence of the fire’s passage, each mark and trace left behind testifying to nature’s inherent impermanence. The act of burning symbolises not only destruction but also transformation, as the fire both consumes and alters the material. The paradox of death and preservation is central to the installation, as the process of burning gives rise to new forms of beauty, fleeting yet potent.
