Hampus Michaelartz Sjöberg

Hampus Michaelartz Sjöberg (b. 1995) is a Stockholm-based artist who grew up in Borlänge, Dalarna.

In my artistic practice, I explore how emotions and experiences can be translated into figurative painting, focusing on themes of identity, pain and relationships.

My practice is where I seek a balance between pain and beauty, between depth and playfulness. I work with identity, relationships and experiences from both my own and the realities of others, while also drawing inspiration from art history and popular culture. Through colour, form, text and my visual style, I tell stories—stories of loss, love, and longing, but also of hope, humour and the possibility of creating something new from the old. Each colour carries its own narrative, but it is in their interaction that the whole emerges. Pain becomes a colour, relationships become an image and aesthetics become the rhythm that binds everything together.

By reflecting on my work, I see how all these elements continuously reappear in my texts, paintings, and visual worlds. Art is my refuge and my voice, and through it, I continue to explore what it means to be me.
