Second Skin

Second Skin examines the spacesuit as a symbol of exploration, progress and power. Historically, it has not only represented humanity’s technological triumphs but also its colonial ambitions and the desire to conquer the unknown. Inspired by sci-fi literature, my degree project questions the spacesuit’s role in both historical and future narratives.

By merging traditional textile techniques such as weaving, sewing and crocheting with futuristic materials and forms, a representation is created where the boundaries between the organic and the artificial dissolve. The suit becomes a speculation about an alternative future, one driven not by dominance but by care and the possibility of existing on one’s own terms.

With a playful blend of craftsmanship and sci-fi aesthetics, Second Skin invites reflection on who gets to be part of future space narratives—and how we can imagine new ones.
