I Am Not the Only That’s What Somebody Should Have Told Me
I inhabit a broken body. A body that aches and hurts and needs rest. A body that does not meet society’s demands of how a body should function.
The shape I have been moulded into has, as a consequence of this, been questioned. Attempts have been made to reshape and remould my body. These efforts have often failed to produce positive outcomes and instead have further torn it apart.
This work is about the experience of medical traumas. The stories told in the piece are mine, but I share them with many others who have disabilities and chronic illnesses.
The core, to which I keep returning, is resistance.
