My degree project explores the possibility of combining design with function by creating ceramic containers for mushroom cultivation at home. These containers should not only be functional and enable a smooth cultivation process, but they should also be modular and sculptural, and be a natural but exciting part of the home interior. By developing a product that simplifies mushroom cultivation and which simultaneously functions as a decorative detail, more people can be inspired to grow their own mushrooms. The containers are made from 3D printed ceramic, as it allows for experiments with innovative shapes and structures and is customisable in both its shape and surface to support the growth of the mushrooms. This well-designed container should be easy to use for even those without previous cultivation experience. This degree project is in collaboration with FreshFungi, a company that is engaged with the cultivation of mushrooms for all.
