Sprouting Through the Salty Desert Floors of Evaporated Seas

Here now, at the time and place we were always heading towards.
Year 1,003,346 but who’s counting?

Returned to the bottom of the missing ocean.
I wonder how we managed to consume it.
Endless dunes of gleaming crystalised salt.
Like on another planet.

Vegetation covers strange rocks on the salty ground.
It’s different from the vines and grass I’ve seen before.
Like it’s made from glass.
Traces from countless lifetimes of disposal, surfacing.
It never left.

An object hovers and rotates above the rocks.
The ground is pulled from the ground towards it.
It has its own gravity.
It resonates with me.
Silent shouts that I can’t hear.
I feel them, telling me to…

Inspired by archaeology, cinema, time-bending storytelling, material transformation and posthumanism, this degree project explores the contradictions of human progress. Technology endures but purpose fades. Nature reclaims what is left behind.

Through the speculative design of objects that balance relic and invention, I explore the concept of time travel; not as a physical phenomenon, but as a tool for reframing our perception of the past, present and future. It blurs the boundaries between all three and questions the rigidity of contemporary thought.

What if the dystopian future we fear has already arrived,
and what if the utopia we long for is just a matter of perspective?
