You Know That We Are Living in a Material World and I Am a Material Girl
Everything begins with the physical material. In dialogue with my selection of materials, I explore the various components of graphic design: composition, typography, imagery, form and concept. The works are fragments and echoes of their own components, of the historical contexts of material and craft, their inherent qualities, sensory potential and associated connotations.
With my nose buried deep in the material, questions arise about today’s digitally-dominated graphic design production. Digital tools are perceived as efficient, but how do they affect creativity and visual expression? Is today’s design more streamlined than it needs to be? Why aren’t more book covers and visual identities made out of wax and organza?
