Dwelling as Nature

My degree project explores sustainable living through the design of a tiny house and an accompanying community model. The goal is to challenge conventional views on ownership, materialism and individualism. By creating a home that emphasises minimalism and craftsmanship, I focus on meeting fundamental human needs while fostering a deeper appreciation of our environment.

The shared plot is designed to promote ecological regeneration, social sustainability and shared responsibility. As the houses are movable and free-standing, they can be placed in natural environments without damaging the land or local ecosystems. Their mobility also allows individuals to adapt their living situation to different environments and life circumstances.

The design incorporates bio-based materials, such as mycelium for insulation and utilises a timber frame construction method that requires less wood and preserves traditional craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from alternative housing models such as eco-villages and WWOOFing sites, my degree project encourages a sustainable, collective way of living where individuals maintain autonomy over their homes while becoming part of a larger community.
