Ruin Ruin: Wamlingbo Kastelle

Ruin Ruin: Wamlingbo Kastelle is an investigation of a preserved and reconstructed ruin on southern Gotland. The ruin is viewed as a layer of time and a dynamic place, where historical fragments, materiality and reconstruction are in focus. By questioning conventional preservation narratives, I explore how we can interpret, shape and extend historical buildings using interior architectural methods.

The project aims to create new layers that enable continuity, while simultaneously opening up the different strata and meanings of the site to speculative interpretations. It moves between the old and the new, between different materials and times, in a continual negotiation about the identity of the place.

Through experimental methods, architectural extensions and a deepened understanding of materiality and spatial relationships, the project strives for an openness in how the ruin can be understood, used, interpreted and developed into the future.
