I have designed a kitchen sofa that combines inspiration from the older Swedish rustic almoge style with a contemporary interpretation. My vision is to give this classic furniture an airier expression than the traditional variants, without compromising its robust character.

The kitchen sofa is ‘designed for disassembly’, which means that it can be taken apart into smaller components to facilitate transport, repair and replacement of parts. The visible screws and nuts are an homage to industrial design and the different craft techniques I have delved into during my three years at Konstfack.

The furniture is made of elm – a type of wood that is threatened in Sweden due to a wilt disease caused by a fungus, which is primarily spread by elm bark beetles. By working exclusively with elm, I aim to draw attention to this problem, while paying tribute to the beautiful aesthetics and unique properties of the wood.
