Loss is the realisation that something or someone can no longer return. Yet, it can also be seen as a catalyst for change. Losing a piece of jewellery means losing a physical and symbolic connection to a part of oneself; an existential void arises, a wordless conversation ceases. In my degree project, I transform this void into substance by recreating lost jewellery for others. Through dialogue, I attach memories to new objects—absence becomes presence, the elusive becomes tangible.
Yet the question remains: is this recreation an attempt to escape an inevitable aspect of human experience? Rather than denying loss, my work aims to give it new direction and meaning. The loss is not erased but integrated into a new form, becoming manageable. The recreated jewellery forms a bridge to what was lost, a fragmented and altered narrative pointing back to the original. Objects become co-creators of our reality, intertwined with our experiences, connecting multiple realities and memories. By recreating jewellery, I seek to offer new perspectives on what loss means and how we engage with its inevitability.
