Forest of sighs / Twelve hammers

This ongoing work on the topic of grieving has been part of my creative process for over a decade. The importance of grieving, how death should be a part of daily life and of finding time to contemplate these topics. The installation is meant to encouraging discussion about bereavement or to remember someone who died. Offering solace without a religious connection to the work. By using textiles, a material so integrated in our lives, the artwork becomes almost soothing in its nature. Embroidering patterns onto the cloth has been both an act of self-consoling through craft and an attempt of creating a visual and emotional connection to others. The thought is to resemble pine tree trunks, although other connotations can be found. By sighing while in the space you can calm your nervous system and lower your blood pressure, to find your footing for a moment. Sound available on webpage.
