This degree project is a study of the creative activities within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service’s facilities. The study is based on qualitative interviews in which personnel in charge of these activities describe what the creative activities might entail, and what effects they can have on the clients.*

The artistic design is centred around the theme of children. It is an affirmation for all those children with a parent serving a prison sentence, and a wish that all children could have a safe and loving childhood. It is also a tribute to the inner child, because we have all been children, even the clients. All of these thoughts are condensed down to a wonderful birthday party. On the set table, you can see a cake, presents and cut flowers. The imaginary birthday party offers everything that you could wish for: that all of your loved ones are there and happy, that you get to celebrate life together, eat good food and play.

Between 2026 and 2027, it is planned that a new client group will serve their prison sentences at designated Prison and Probation Service facilities. These clients are between 15 and 17 years old. For this new client group, education will be especially important. The creative activities can also contribute here with new knowledge and meaning-making.
