A Fair & Honest Trial: A Spatial Critical Study of Interior Architecture in Sweden’s Judicial System
PTSD, trauma and a neglected interrogation room
developed into a feverishly distorted memory of terror.
Cornered, scared in the court’s public waiting area next to the perpetrator, waiting to testify.
A withdrawn testimony.
What role do perceptual impressions play in psychologically vulnerable situations? Would a more carefully fitted room that promotes warmth and safety have changed the distorted memory?
Or even the interrogation itself?
Swedish courts have only one entrance and one public waiting area. The same areas are used by both plaintiff and defendant. How does that affect the individual?
If the different parties do not feel safe in the waiting area prior to testifying, how can the outcome result in a fair trial?

Spatial aestehics and techniques to ease psychologically vulnerable situations in court.
